 COME ONE! COME ALL!

TO THE MAYFAIR STAMPEDE!!!

Every year, there’s a theme that’s chosen to add extra pizzazz to Mayfair.  This year’s theme The Mayfair Stampede and here’s the ballyhoo: it’s going to be a wonderful day of community togetherness and a ton of extraordinary fun for kids of all ages! Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 10 so you don’t forget that’s the day you and your whole family can saddle up at daybreak, and ride off to the Stampede!

Mayfair will here before you know it, and it’s not too early to start getting ready for the big day.  Here’s how:

  • Kids, get together with your parents and design your costume for the Mayfair Parade.  Headed up by antique pick-up trucks, the parade will wind its way through Moore Park and Rosedale and end up, very conveniently, at the entrance to Rosedale Park at 9:00 am, just as Mayfair is getting under way!  Two-wheelers, tricycles and strollers (all decorated, of course) are welcome in the parade.  It’s a great way to get a head start on the fun!  Check the May newsletter for start times and locations and a map of the parade route.  If you’re not in the parade, come on out and cheer the participants on!

  • Grown-ups and kids alike, don’t be shy about coming to Mayfair in a costume, even if you can’t be in the parade!  Now’s the time to fire up your imagination and think of ways you can express yourself, Western style!  You’ll double your fun and you might even win a prize from costume spotters who’ll be roaming the park!

  • If you’re a local teen band/solo act and want to perform on the teen stage at the south-east end of the park, let us know right away so we can schedule you in.  The teen band event debuted to great acclaim at last year’s Mayfair and it promises to be even bigger this year.  We provide the drum kit, microphones and amps; you provide the talent and your own guitars and keyboard. Call Mayfair committee member and guitar guru Matt Finlayson at 416-489-1549.

Traditional Mayfair festivities (and more) are back in 2008!

  • Rides for Big Kids and Little Kids!  Don’t forget to buy your ride voucher if you want to ride all day for the amazingly low price of $25.  The vouchers, which are exchanged for a ride bracelet at the entrance to Rosedale Park on Mayfair day, are available from April 23 through May 7 (and no later!) at both Summerhill Market and Mooredale House.  It’s a great deal and it’s a great convenience since you don’t have to worry about buying tickets to get on the rides. Please note that the vouchers are good for the mechanical rides only.

  • Fabulous Food!  The Mayfair Food Court (which you’ll find at the far end of Rosedale Park at the southwest corner of the hockey arena) will be serving up a delicious array of barbequed goodies and thirst-quenching drinks. There’s lots of seating and it’s conveniently located between the Beer and Wine Garden and the Baking Booth so you can make a complete meal of it!  Look for celebrity chefs flipping burgers alongside your friends and neighbours!

  • Tons of fun for everyone!  Your favourite Mayfair activities will be back and there’ll also be a few special surprises in keeping with the Mayfair Stampede theme.  Come on out for bargains in the Marketplace, morning track and field competition (schedule to be posted in the May newsletter), bingo and midway games (with great prizes!), air brush face painting (new this year!), the climbing wall, bouncy castles, karaoke, the art tent, and a chance to win some amazing raffle prizes.

Remember!  Rain or shine, the show will go on!! Complete details on the Mayfair Stampede will appear in the May issue of Mooredale News.

Volunteers

 Needed!

Greetings from the 2008 Mayfair Committee

Thanks very much for offering to volunteer at Mayfair.  As of this date, we believe that we have managed to find enough volunteers to work during the day at Mayfair attractions and food areas.

There are still two areas where we can always use help, if you are strong enough to help lift tables, chairs and supplies:

 Friday Set-Up at Rosedale Park

Please meet with Paul Zucchi at Rosedale Park at 8:30am on Friday May 9th.  Paul Zucchi is working with all the other volunteers we can find to set up all the equipment , canopies, and furniture we need to operate Mayfair. We usually finish set-up around 4:30 and we can provide pizza for lunch for all the set-up crew. If you have work gloves, you should bring those too.  If you can only work for a few hours, we are grateful for whatever time you can spare.

 Saturday Take-Down at Rosedale Park

We start taking down the canopies, tables and chairs around 4:30 on Mayfair Day. Everything has to be stored away, loaded onto some trucks to come back to Mooredale, or stacked for pick-up by the rental company.  We would appreciate as much help as we can get, so the job is done as quickly as possible.  If you can help, please meet James Barrass at the First Aid station between 4:00 – 4:30.  The job will likely take until 6:30pm.  All help is gratefully accepted! Bring your work gloves if you have them.
