Pool Building Progress Report

Arriving back at Mooredale in the New Year, it was wonderful to see all the progress that has taken place on the Pool Building expansion. 

At our most recent site meeting, we were discussing details about the water mixing and timer valves for the showers.  Just as you see in commercial building thermostats, the water temperature controls will be fixed at a comfortably warm temperature so there is no chance that a patron could inadvertently leave the shower knob at a ‘very hot’ position that could hurt the next patron.  Staff will have access to adjust the temperature setting so we can make adjustments on very hot or cool days.   (more .....) 

We are now at the point where we are choosing colours too – and have opted for a classic white and blue theme on the interior walls.  This will coordinate well the flooring (same flooring product as we had before).  You may have dropped by Mooredale this fall for a program and noticed the coloured stucco exterior south wall of the new changeroom.  The Preschoolers have shared their thoughts about the new ‘feature wall’ in the playground.  They say that they really like the happy colours (blue-gray and warm yellow).  The teachers have commented that they are looking forward to the special activities that can take place under the generous roof overhang – creating the feel of a verandah.  Our summer users will also appreciate the new shady space on very hot days.

We were very lucky with the good building weather last Fall and much of the exterior work was completed before we closed for the holidays.  The new emergency gate from the pool deck is in place.  The exterior windows are in.  The new skylights have added great daylight into the new Women’s changeroom.

Things are moving along very well. Our builder (Weenen Construction) and our Architect (Monica Kuhn) have confirmed that the work will be substantially completed by the end of February so we will be able to move the Pool Office, furniture, appliances, pool benches, equipment and supplies into the new space in March. That will leave time for the Pool Committee and staff to add the final touches in April, before opening day on May 22nd. We are confident that everyone will appreciate the new facilities and the women will love the extra space they will have!
